PACWEST Curlers
It's Day 4 at the CCAA Curling Championship
The PACWEST is represented at this year’s CCAA Curling championships taking place in Regina, Saskatchewan until Saturday.
The tournament hosts a mix of teams from CCAA and USports schools in both men’s and women’s categories. There are 32 teams in total, eight on the women’s side including the defending champions from the PACWEST.
Four athletes from four different PACWEST schools have combined to represent the Conference including Camosun Charger Emily Bowles; the very same skip that led the PACWEST to victory last year alongside returning players third Erin Fitzgibbon of the Langara Falcons and lead Lauren Cochrane from the Okanagan Coyotes. The only new player on the roster is second Ashley Fenton from the Douglas Royals.
Entering the fourth day of competition on Friday, the PACWEST has played five games, winning four of them, currently tied for first place with Red Deer and SAIT from the ACAC.
They opened the tournament with a convincing 14-3 victory over Humber before crushing Niagara 11-2, then sneaking by Concordia 4-3 on Wednesday. On Thursday the PACWEST lost their only game to date when they fell 7-2 to Red Deer, then bounced back later in the day to beat Assiniboine by a 9-0 score. The split yesterday sets up this uber important game on Friday morning at 10:00am PST against the Mohawk Mountaineers, before a meeting with SAIT at 6:00pm PST.
