Mariners Sweep Blues
The top seed Mariners dismantle the Blues in three straight
It’ll be a rematch of the PACWEST championship match from last year as the VIU Mariners sweep the Capilano Blues and will face the Douglas Royals in the gold medal match on Saturday.
The Mariners scored points from all parts of the floor on Friday led by Karoline Tormena who finished with 12 kills despite having flu symptoms until 1:00am. She also had nine digs and two blocks. Danielle Groenendijk had nine kills and nine digs and Player of the Match Andrea Cankovic finished with seven kills, four aces and two blocks.
Megan Koven for the Blues led their offence with eight kills and a pair of digs. Isabela Lima was also solid with six kills and four digs. Setter Kelsey Towers was named the Player of the Match.
With the win the Mariners will face the Royals in the gold medal match and regardless of the outcome both teams will head to the CCAA national championship at Niagara College. The Blues meanwhile will play the Camosun Chargers for PACWEST bronze at 1:00pm MST tomorrow.
