Welcome to the 2019 PACWEST Volleyball Championships! The College of the Rockies and Avalanche Athletics is proud to host the top men’s and women’s volleyball teams from the PACWEST in Cranbrook, BC.
On behalf of College of the Rockies I would like to wish all the teams the best of luck in the Championships and hope that the 2019 PACWEST Championships are an experience you will never forget.

The Official Tournament hotel of the 2019 PACWEST Volleyball Championships is the Sandman Inn Cranbrook.
Coaches & Officials Lounges
The VIP Room will be located in room 228a, just outside the Gymnasium. The VIP Room will be open during the competition from 12:30pm to 10:00pm each day. Refreshments and snacks will be provided for Athletic Directors, Coaching Staff and VIP’s ONLY throughout the tournament.
The official’s room will be located in room 203g just down the hall from the gymnasium.
Concession / Meals
A light concession will be available in the College of the Rockies gym throughout the Championship. Our Cafeteria will be open during regular business hours on Wednesday/Thursday 8:00am – 7:00pm; Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm.
Teams can eat at Mr. Mikes Steakhouse with a 15% off discount. Make sure to Reference PACWEST Volleyball Championship at COTR to receive discount.
Pre-Tournament
The championships will be promoted by various means. A digital version of the tournament poster will be sent to all PACWEST volleyball schools and will be posted at schools in Cranbrook and other various locations within the community. The championships will also be advertised and featured by local media in Cranbrook as well as on social media. The College of the Rockies will be creating a promotional video that participants can share on their social media.
During Tournament
A results board will also be located in the hallway outside the gym and game recaps and results will be posted on the tournament website throughout the event.
All games will be webcast on Sports Canada TV at sportscanada.tv

Practice Times
Practice times will be available on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at College of the Rockies. Please see the schedule below for details. Please note the following with regard to practice times:
- As per PACWEST Operations Manual, #1 and #2 seeds will not have a practice time on Wednesday.
- General change rooms only are available during practice times.
- Teams are eligible for one practice time only each day.
- Teams cannot ‘give’ their practice time to another team but two teams can request from the organizing committee to ‘swap’ their times by mutual consent.
- Practice times will be determined by team arrival times and special team requests
- Please request your preferred Wednesday practice times by contacting Dylan Thompson at 250-489-2751 X 3556 or dthompson@cotr.bc.ca no later than Thursday, February 14th, by 12:00pm
- Practice Schedule and assigned team rooms will be sent to all participating institutions no later than Friday, February 15th, 2019

Opening Ceremony
There will not be an opening ceremony at these championships.
PACWEST League Awards
The following PACWEST League Awards will be presented prior to each team’s first match of the event. At the end of warm up, the entire team will move to their respective end line for the presentation of league awards, once complete the starting lineups will be announced and the match will begin.

Closing Ceremonies
The Bronze Medal Awards Ceremony will immediately follow each Women’s and Men’s Bronze Medal Games.
The Gold/Silver Awards Ceremony will immediately follow each Women’s and Men’s Gold/Silver games.
The following awards will be handed out after each respective gold medal game:
- Tournament all-stars (6)

Game Protocol
PACWEST Volleyball Pre-Game Protocol
1. Minimum 25 minute warm-up
2. At game time, teams line-up on the side opposite the bleachers and turn to face the flags
3. National Anthem is played
4. After Anthem teams turn around and face the stands
5. Non starting players and coaches are announced
6. Followed by the starting Line-ups being announced
7. Awards for PACWEST League All-stars, Rookies and Coaches of the Year are presented – Thurs /Fri
8. Officials signal game to start
After each game, we will have each team line up on the attack line for the Booster Juice Player of the Match Award.
National Anthem
1:00pm and 6:00pm games will open with the National Anthem, and all games will be announced (including conference award winners, starting line-up introductions, referee introductions) by an experienced announcer.

Team Rooms
All teams will have access to a change room 1 hour before and 1 hour after their match. The assigned rooms will be marked with team name and logo. Rooms will be locked during each match so personal belongings can be left in the room. Each room is equipped with a white board and video access. A schedule of team rooms will be posted in the gymnasium.
Video Room
A video room may be available upon request. There are limited rooms available, so they will be offered based on what’s available at that time. Please contact Dylan Thompson to book in advance. dthompson@cotr.bc.ca or 250-489-2751 x 3556
Ice
Ice will be available in the gymnasium.
Uniforms
The higher seeded team for each game will be designated as the HOME team and will wear light colored uniforms. Therefore, the lower seeded team for each game will be designated as the AWAY team and will wear dark colored uniforms. All teams must bring a light and dark set of uniforms to the Championships. Uniform colors will be confirmed at the Coaches’ Meeting.
WARM-UP BALLS
Sixteen warm-up balls will be provided for the pre-game warm up. Therefore, eight balls per team. Each team is responsible for returning their eight warm-up balls back to the tournament ball bins prior to the beginning of the game.
Webcasting
All of the championship games will be webcast on SportsCanada.TV.
Game Film
All games will be recorded. Copies of each game will be distributed to participating teams immediately following the game. We request all teams to bring labeled USB flash drives to the event staff prior to the game for a more efficient and timely transfer of the game data
Tournament Results
A large tournament draw board will be posted and updated after each match. Tournament information and results will be posted on the PACWEST Volleyball Championship website at http://www.pacwestbc.ca/volleyball2019. Live results will also be posted via social media during the Championships. Follow the Av’s social media sites for up-to-date results and game information.

Stats
Live stats will be recorded during each game. A print out for each team will be available immediately after each match.
Grievance/Protest Committee
As per the PACWEST policy, the head official (Brad Willard), PACWEST Volleyball Convenor (or designate) and an Executive member will comprise the committee. A copy of the Grievance/Protest procedures will be provided at the Coaches’ Meeting.
There will be a Certified Athletic Therapist on site at all times. The Athletic Therapy clinic will be available, but there will be limited access for visiting athletes. An appropriate referral outlining the injury description and treatment plan are required for service. By appointment only.
The host therapist will discuss the venue’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP) with visiting medical staff prior to competition.
You must have someone who is available to go to the clinic/hospital with an injured athlete. Should emergency transport to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital be required, the College of the Rockies will not be responsible for any charges associated with emergency transportation of visiting athletes.
There will be no access to a physician on site.
In the event of an injury, a report will be filled out and a copy sent home with the athletes. The report will be forwarded to the Athletic Director and the injured athlete will be subject to your return to play protocol.
Concussion Protocol
If an incident occurs at the provincial tournament and a concussion is suspected, the National Championship Concussion management protocol will be implemented by either the team Certified Athletic therapist (CATA), the designated Championship National Certified Athletic Therapist (CATA) or Physician. An immediate sideline assessment will be made. If a team has their own QUALIFIED personnel, they would make the determination. If not, the qualified tournament personnel would make the decision and the team/athlete would be bound to abide by that decision. If the student-athlete show signs, symptoms or behaviors consistent with a concussion, the athlete shall be removed from the competition and not allowed to compete until such time he/she is seen by a physician and diagnosed. Any student-athlete who has been diagnosed with a concussion by a physician during the championships will no longer be able to compete for the duration of the event.

Laundry Services
Laundry service will be available to the teams that advance from Thursdays games at no charge. Please bring uniforms to gymnasium office after your match on Thursday so we have ample time before each your next match.
Towel Service
Towel service will only be provided on Saturday for teams that are departing Cranbrook on Saturday.
Parking
Free Parking for all guests attending the PACWEST Championship.
Team Buses will be permitted to drop-off and pick-up teams in front of East entrance to the College. Busses are asked to park at the back of the East Parking. (Appendix C)
Internet Access - Stacie
To connect to the COTR Wireless do the following:
1. Using the wireless client on your computer connect to COTR Public. You'll show as "Connected"
2. Launch your favorite web browser and you should be connected
3. No user name or password required
Photographs
Action photos will be taken throughout the tournament. Following each game, photos will be uploaded to Flickr for athletes, fans and media to access.
