The Cinderella Story
The COTR Avalanche will play for their first ever Provincial Gold Medal
The Cinderella story for the sixth seeded COTR Avalanche continues after a four set victory over the second seeded Capilano Blues in the first women’s semi-final.
The Avalanche took advantage of a number of Blues’ serving errors winning 25-21, 25-19, 14-25 and 25-17.
First team All-Star Kelsey Thompson was outstanding with 10 kills and 14 digs, while Arianna Benwell was named the Player of the Match collecting 11 kills and was terrific defensively.
The Avalanche will play in the Provincial gold medal game for the first time in school history on Saturday at 6:00pm. They will face the winner of the UFV Cascades-VIU Mariners semi-final later today.
The Blues really didn’t look comfortable from the outset, continuously serving the ball into the net. Kira Sutcliffe was solid with 17 kills and 3 blocks, named the Player of the Match. Meghan Kovan had six kills and three aces.
The Blues will play for Provincial bronze on Friday against either the Cascades or Mariners.
