Day 1 Leaderboard
It was wet and cool day as the PACWEST opened the golf championship
The PACWEST golf championship tournament opened on Friday under very wet and cool conditions in Nanaimo. The weather made it difficult for players to find a rhythm which resulted in some higher scores.
One player that the weather seemed to have no effect was the defending CCAA champion Daniel Campbell of the UFV Cascades. He shot a tournament low 68 on Friday and took control of the men’s leaderboard with a five stroke lead over Tyler Robertson of the Camosun Chargers.
The PACWEST Player of the Year Wyatt Brook of the host VIU Mariners shot a 75 on Day 1 and finds himself tied for fourth place with Cascade Kyle Claggett. The lone Langara Falcon Jacob Vanderpas was third shooting a 74.
The Cascades as a team shot a 295, ten strokes better than the Chargers and 15 strokes better than the UBC Okanagan Heat.
On the women’s side Alex Foston of the Mariners finished on top of the leaderboard after shooting a 79, one stroke better than the PACWEST Player of the Year Samantha Copeland. Victoria Ross of the Mariners finished in the third spot with a Day 1 round of 84.
In total the Mariners has a team finished the first day with a score of 163, two strokes better than the Heat.
Saturday morning the athletes will tee-off on Day 2 at the Nanaimo Golf Club.
