Mariners Win PACWEST Gold
The VIU Mariners are back on top of the PACWEST in 2025
VIU Mariners 69
CBC Bearcats 59
In front of a great crowd the VIU Mariners claim the PACWEST gold medal in 2025.
Both teams battled hard and left it all on the floor, but it was the Mariners depth along with too many weapons that eventually wore down the Bearcats and secured the win.
On the offensive side the Mariners shot 36% from the field led by Harriette Mackenzie with her game high 21 points along with 10 rebounds. Their offense was balanced with eight different scorers with Makayla Kimbe adding 13 points and Mackenzie Cox dropping 12 and was named Player of the Game.
Offensively the Mariners got their opportunities, but it was their defence that frustrated the Bearcats offence including PACWEST Player of the Year Elissa Vreugdenhil who was held to seven points on 3 of 11 shooting.
The Bearcats did shoot 35% and Grace Park was terrific, dropping a team high 16 points and was named Player of the Game. Kagari Tomita was the motor of the Bearcats offence scoring 15 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
Despite the loss the Bearcats capture their first ever PACWEST medal and will still advance to the CCAA national championship in New Brunswick along with the Mariners.
Following the game the tournament All-Stars and MVP were announced.
