Bronzed Blues
The Capilano Blues win PACWEST bronze in 2025
Capilano Blues – 61
Douglas Royals – 49
Maddy Coffin’s 20 points paced the Capilano Blues Saturday afternoon as they claimed PACWEST bronze, defeating the Douglas College Royals.
The teams traded buckets early with the Royals taking a two-point lead after the first quarter, highlighted by the first of three from three-point territory on the game from Karishma Rai.
Capilano got rolling in the second quarter, with Barcha Hnizdilova finishing on three nice takes to the rim and Mina Djordjevic chipping in four points off the bench. The Blues were forced to play without rookie standout Mia Parkin for most of the second quarter as she nursed a foot injury but managed to hold the Royals to just seven points in the frame and take a 33-22 lead to the break.
Parkin was able to get patched up and returned for the second half but it was the Royals who started strong out of halftime, going on an 8-3 run getting layups from Lauren Clements, Mackenzie Dalphond, Avnoor Waraich and Amar Thiara. Capilano stabilized themselves when Maddy Coffin hit her second of two threes on her way to a game-high 20 points and a second Player of the Game nod in the tournament.
Rai drilled a couple triples early in the fourth quarter for Douglas but Capilano responded each time with Parkin knocking one down from beyond the arc and the team then shooting well from the free-throw line.
Playing her final game in Blues colours, veteran guard Jenna Griffin put the game on ice for Capilano, hitting each of her four free throws in the final minute of the game to finish her day with nine points, four boards, four assists and four steals.
The bronze is the first for Capilano since the 2011-12 season
