Chargers Win Bronze
The Camosun Chargers capture the PACWEST bronze
Camosun Chargers – 90
CBC Bearcats – 72
Powered by 26 points from team scoring leader David Finch, the Camosun Chargers brought home the bronze medal, downing the CBC Bearcats Saturday afternoon.
Finch was incandescent from the opening tip, hitting four threes plus a pair of other buckets while handing out two dimes for 16 points in the first 10 minutes.
Finding themselves down by double digits, CBC came to life in the second quarter with Cam Carter dropping 10 of his team-leading 23 points. D’Andre Palmer-Ormsby and Dane-Dre Anglin also had multiple buckets with the latter hitting a buzzer-beater layup to make it 43-40 for Camosun at halftime.
The Chargers, playing on quick turnaround from Friday night’s double-overtime defeat in the semifinals, showed impressive resilience in the second half. Cormick Brown hit two threes in the third quarter as part of his 23-point game and Jon Martens came off the bench for nine of his 12 points to help restore the Chargers’ double-digit advantage.
CBC had a last gasp in the final frame when Levi Van Egdom hit a pair of three just 30 seconds apart, making the scored 76-60 but the Bearcats would get no closer as Brown hit his fifth three of the game for Camosun and they coasted home from there.
The bronze is the fourth in the last six seasons for the Chargers.
