The Camosun Chargers battle the Capilano Blues in a men's semifinal
#3 Capilano Blues vs. #2 Camosun Chargers – Friday February 28, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
The final PACWEST game in the month of February is a men’s semifinal that will see the Blues and Chargers renew pleasantries with a berth in the gold medal game on the line.
After an impressive regular season the Chargers earned a bye into the semifinal and had a chance to scout the Blues during their dominating quarterfinal victory over the Douglas Royals on Thursday night. That said, not too much has changed since these two schools met last weekend at Capilano in the regular season finale. During that doubleheader the Chargers won both, the first in overtime, then a blowout the next day.
In four regular season meetings the Chargers won all four, including the two last weekend. The average margin of victory for the Chargers was 14.5 points in their regular season tilts. In all, they won 19 games this year averaging 78 points a game and shot 41%. Izzy Helman has been an excellent addition since the Christmas break, joining the team and averaging over 18 points in his 12 games played. David Finch has been the most consistent player with over 15 points a contest, playing the entire year.
The Blues were great on Thursday night in the quarter-final win, although their starters got themselves into foul trouble early on. All-Stars Kash Lang and Damien Coleman really didn’t get into rhythm due to their fouls, but Ajaypal Hayer came off the bench to spark the offence and lead them to a lopsided win.
These two programs last met in the postseason in 2022 with the Blues earning a 10-point semifinal victory at Camosun.
The winner of today’s game advances to the PACWEST gold medal on Saturday night.
