Blues Battle Royals
It's a men's quarterfinal as the Blues and Royals lock-up
#3 Capilano Blues vs. #6 Douglas Royals – Thursday February 27, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
The Blues and Royals will tip-off on Thursday night in front of what should be a ruckus crowd at Capilano in a quarterfinal matchup.
The last time these two schools met in the playoffs was a 2019 semi-final which the Royals won by 16 points with the championship held at Douglas.
Coming into the PACWEST championship tournament on their home floor, the Blues (13-11) finished with six wins and six losses at Capilano including a pair of losses to the Camosun Chargers this past weekend. That said, they should have confidence in this quarterfinal with the Royals after sweeping them in the seasonal series winning all four matchups by an average of 20 points.
During the regular season the Blues shot the ball well at 43% and scored over 78 points a game. Kash Lang was their leading scorer averaging over 15 points per game.
The Royals (8-16) will need to play their best game of the season on Thursday night and contend with a very loud and pro-Blue crowd. They split their games this past weekend in the regular season finale winning in overtime on their home floor. Overall, they have lost two of their last three games and are shooting 36% this season, dropping in just over 70 points a game. Scottie Austin has been their primary weapon averaging 13.5 points a game.
They are looking for their first playoff win since winning a PACWEST gold medal in 2020, just days before the pandemic shutdown the world including the men’s CCAA national championship tournament in which they qualified for.
The winner will advance to meet the #2 Camosun Chargers on Friday night.
