Blues punch ticket to semi's with dominate fourth quarter
In the second quarterfinal of the 2016 PACWEST Basketball Provincial Championships the #3 Capilano Blues women’s basketball team took on the #6 Camosun Chargers.
Strong post play by Karyn Nelson and back-to-back 3-pointers by PACWEST first team all-star Michelle Errico led way to a 19-14 first quarter leads for the Blues. The Blues took off in the second quarter behind Sherrie Errico, as she erupted for 12 points to put the Blues up 42-24 going into the half time break.
With just under six minutes to go, the Blues were able to stop the Chargers' momentum behind a big three by Michelle Errico and a baseline jumper by PACWEST second team all-star Carmel M’Bikata to make it a 67-61 game.
The Blues finished off the game in dominating fashion and booked their ticket to the PACWEST semi-finals with a 80-66 win over the Chargers.
Player of the game, Carmel M’Bikata, led all scorers with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Michelle and Sherrie Errico finished with 15 and 13 points respectively. Bakker scored 17 points and Young added 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Chargers.
The Capilano Blues move on to the semi-finals tomorrow at 1 p.m. versus the #2 Douglas College Royals.
