Royals Sweep Chargers at Home
To the casual follower of PACWEST men's volleyball, last night's 3-2 Royals' comeback win over the Chargers might be viewed as an upset win. To the trained eye, it was a battle of two very, very good teams that are both nationally ranked with no clear advantage over the other.
The season series between the two giants began in Week 4 which had the Chargers win both their matches at home vs the Royals on the 6th and 7th of November. This past weekend, the host Royals were looking to even the series and were well on their way with last nights 3-2 win.
This afternoon's contest was a back and forth affair. The Chargers made the opening salvo and took the 1st set 25-23. The Royals fought back and squeeked out a 26-24 win of their own. Not to be out done, Camosun charged back with a 25-18 win to go up 2-1. Douglas countered with a 25-18 win of their own to set up a 5th and final set where the Royals continued the momentum and closed out the match with a 15-10 set win.
"Another great character win. Aside from one position we went with a completely different lineup and didn't skip a beat." said Royals head coach Hudson "The entire roster played this weekend and did a real nice job."
With the series tied at 2-2, both teams would have to wait for either the Provincial Championships or the National Championships to find out which team can claim the bragging rights of being better than the other.
The Royals now travel to the Island to play the VIU Mariners while the Chargers stay home and host the Capilano Blues next weekend.
