Royals defeat Chargers in Five
It was billed as the "Match of the Week", part 1 where the #3 CCAA nationally ranked Douglas College Royals hosted the #2 CCAA nationally ranked Camosun College Chargers on Friday night. With both teams entering the weekend sitting in the top 10 nationally, it was an evening not to be missed.
The Camosun Chargers, having a season for the record books came up against one of the top teams in the PACWEST over the last several years. If the Chargers have any hopes of getting back to the National Championships, then the competition the Royals provided would be essential for their continued success.
Douglas College, this years’ National hosts were only eager to provide that competition and prove that they also deserve some recognition for their accomplishments. In a 5 set battle, it was definately a match of the week. The Chargers came out swinging winning the first two sets 25-23, 26-24 in two very tight sets. The Royals, although on the losing end kept their focus and mounted a comeback for hometown fans in attendance. The next three sets went to the Royals 25-19, 25-20 and 25-11 to complete the comeback and take the set 3-2.
"Tonight's win was a testament to our resolve. Our kids were real determined and to their credit stayed the course despite dropping two close sets." commented Royals head coach Brad Hudson.
Both teams return to action tomorrow at 3 pm.
