Mariners Sink Blues
The VIU travelled to North Vancouver where they played a well rested Capilano team who had a bye the week previous. Heading into tonight's match, VIU remained undefeated since returning to action from the Christmas break. The Blues on the otherhand have not won yet in 2016 and in fact the last win was on Nov. 7 when they travelled to Nanaimo to play the same VIU Mariners.
Friday night at the Capilano Sportsplex, the visiting Mariners were unwilling to help the Blues earn their first win of the new year. VIU went on to convincingly defeat Capilano in three straight sets.
"It was a difficult match to maintain any type of flow or consistency as Capilano's undermanned squad were very unconventional with their play. Their were players playing in positions that they would typically not which made game planning difficult." stated VIU's head ciach Abe Avender. "My hat goes off to Emmanuel (CapU coach) and his players for their relentless effort and never stop competing attitude regardless of what the score board said."
"We went into the match with the same mind set we have since the new year, worry about our side, regardless whom is across the net." continued Avender. "I was happy to see our veterans and the leadership they displayed, help us to maintain focus from start to finish and not let the score or quality of the match dictate what we did on our side."
Both teams return to action at 3 pm Saturday Afternoon.
