The Camosun Chargers open the CCAA national championship
Camosun Chargers vs. Keyano Huskies – Wednesday March 13, 11:00am PST | WATCH HERE
The Chargers open the CCAA national championship when they meet the ACAC champion Huskies on Wednesday afternoon in New Brunswick.
They are a wildcard berth after finishing second in the PACWEST this past season winning a silver medal. It’s been a week and a half since they have played so should be healthy coming into this championship tournament.
Oddly enough the last time the Chargers were in this championship, in 2016, they played at Keyano but didn’t face the Huskies. They also didn’t win a game finishing in eighth place.
Meanwhile the Huskies won the ACAC after a 17-3 regular season. They shot 47.3% from the field this year and scored over 88-points a game. They crushed St. Mary’s University in the Conference final 94-79. Their main source of points comes from the ACAC Player of the Year, forward Omeechi Williams who averaged over 20-points a game and guard DJ Haynes’ 14.
The Chargers defence has been one of their strengths this season and that will need to continue against Williams and company on Wednesday. The key for the Chargers will be to stay out of foul trouble and keep their starters on the floor.
The winner advances to the national semi-final on Thursday.
