Mariners Face Blues
The VIU Mariners take on the Capilano Blues in Friday's semi-final
#5 Capilano Blues @ #1 VIU Mariners – Friday February 25, 5:30pm | WATCH HERE
For the first time at the PACWEST volleyball championship the top ranked and three-time defending national championship VIU Mariners will hit the floor. They will square off with the fifth seeded Capilano Blues in a semi-final with a berth in the gold medal match on the line. Since the PACWEST receives a wildcard berth at the CCAA national championship the winner will also punch their ticket to Prince Edward Island.
During the regular season the Mariners recorded a clean sweep over the Blues winning each of their three meetings in three-straight sets with their last meeting on January 29 at VIU.
The Blues played an emotional and exhausting quarterfinal match on Thursday when they upset the #4 seeded COTR Avalanche in five exciting sets. The Blues have been banged up all year, but seemed to survive the battle with the Avalanche, winning the first two-sets, then losing the next two before rebounding for a fifth set victory.
Friday’s match-up is a carbon copy of when they met in 2019 as the #1 Mariners swept the #5 Blues in Cranbrook.
