Royals Face Avalanche For Bronze
The battle for bronze will see the COTR Avalanche meet the Douglas Royals
#4 COTR Avalanche @ #2 Douglas Royals – Saturday February 26, 3:00pm | WATCH HERE
It’s possibly the hardest match to play in sports, the battle for bronze. Both the Avalanche and Royals had their hopes a gold medal dashed with tough losses on Friday in the semi-finals and will need to put that behind them and compete to finish their season on a high note.
The Royals were upset and swept by the Camosun Chargers (25-21, 25-18, 25-19) while the Avalanche fell in an extremely tight, five-set match to the VIU Mariners, dropping the deciding set 15-12.
Over the course of the regular season these two teams met three times with the Royals winning twice as all three matches went to five sets. Oddly enough all three matches were over the course of the opening weekend of the season in early November.
The Royals last won bronze in 2020 while the Avalanche won in 2014. These two schools haven’t seen each other in the playoffs since 2017 when the Royals won a quarterfinal in five sets.
