A pair of teams jockeying for positioning in the PACWEST standings will meet on Thursday night when the Royals entertain the Avalanche. There are currently eight points between them in the standings.
First off the Royals are in third place, have won three straight matches and have climbed to within two points of the Camosun Chargers for second. A win on Thursday would give them their longest win streak of the season. They travelled to Cranbrook at the end of October and earned a split in their only other meeting this year.
The Avalanche meanwhile have struggled losing six straight and haven’t won since November 19th. Thursday night opens six straight on the road to finish the regular season. They will play three matches this weekend as they face the Capilano Blues on Friday and Saturday. They currently hold down the fourth and final playoff spot, eight points up on the Blues and CBC Bearcats who each have two matches in hand. The Avalanche will host the PACWEST championship tournament and are looking to clinch a playoff spot to ensure a match in front of their hometown crowd.

It’s the second meeting of the season between these two programs. Back in October the Avalanche swept the matches at COTR in three sets and five sets respectively.
The Avalanche hold down the second spot in the standings but have hit a cold spell. They have lost three in a row, all at home. This match with the Royals begins three in three nights and six straight on the road. They are four points up on the VIU Mariners in the standings and trail the Camosun Chargers by six points for top spot.
The Royals host the Avalanche on Thursday night, then again on February 12th in the final match of the regular season. They have won two straight and are holding onto the final playoff spot, eight points up on the Capilano Blues. This is their only match this weekend.
