The very best from the PACWEST basketball season are revealed
The PACWEST is proud to announce the 2021-2022 basketball First and Second Team All-Stars, the All-Rookie Team and Major Award winners on the eve of the championship tournament.
WOMEN
First Team All-Stars:
Amber Lease – VIU Mariners – the point guard averaged over 11 points a game and shot 43% from the field
Jordan Kemper – Okanagan Coyotes – she started all 16 games and averaged over 17 points a game along with eight rebounds and shot 40% from the field
Shayce Johnston – VIU Mariners – the veteran snagged over seven rebounds a game and averaged 10.9 points
Jenessa Knapp – Douglas Royals – the rookie was outstanding averaging over 14 points and six rebounds a game and shot almost 32% from the field
Paloma Niz-Velazquez – Okanagan Coyotes – she primarily came off the bench playing in 10 games and shot 48% from the field averaging 16 points a contest
Second Team All-Stars:
Ryann Lee – CBC Bearcats – she won the PACWEST scoring title and was the main source of offence for the young Bearcats. She averaged 23.3 points and six rebounds a game
Jenna Griffin – Capilano Blues – she led the Blues in her rookie season with 11.1 points a game, dished out 36 assists and shot 40% from the field
Kirsten Abo – Capilano Blues – she averaged over nine points a game and shot 33% from the field
Tamiya Ness – Camosun Chargers – she led the PACWEST averaging over 10 rebounds a game and added 7.4 points while recording 46 assists
Ida Jonsson-Ojala – Capilano Blues – she played just seven games but was dominate under the hoop shooting 52.4% and averaged over 10 points and 12 rebounds a game
All-Rookie Team:
Jenessa Knapp – Douglas Royals – she led the Royals in scoring with over 14 points a game and averaged 6.5 boards
Jenna Griffin – Capilano Blues – in her first PACWEST season she led the Blues with 11.1 points a game and shot 40% from the field
Ryann Lee – CBC Bearcats – as a rookie she won the PACWEST scoring title with over 23 points a game, made 33 steals and averaged over six rebounds
Laini Glover – Douglas Royals – she was part of an impressive rookie 1-2 punch averaging 11.9 points and seven rebounds a game while shooting 46.4% from the field
Harriette Mackenzie – VIU Mariners – she played in nine games and made an immediate impact averaging 10.7 points and shot 54.7% from the field
MAJOR AWARDS
Defensive Player of the Year – Elizabeth Henne – Okanagan Coyotes – she was certainly impressive on the defensive side with 26 blocked shots, 34 steals and averaged almost five defensive rebounds a game
Coach of the Year – Andrew Gini – Okanagan Coyotes – he led the Coyotes to their best record and highest seeding in the program’s third year. They beat teams by an average of 14.9 points and finished 10-6 overall
Rookie of the Year – Jenessa Knapp – Douglas Royals – she was a force in the backcourt for the Royals dishing out 39 assists, averaging 14.6 points a game and shot 32% from the field
Player of the Year – Amber Lease – VIU Mariners – in her final season she guided the Mariners to an undefeated campaign averaging 11.3 points, tallied 89 assists and shot 43% from the field
MEN
First Team All-Stars:
Akoi Yuot – VIU Mariners – he averaged 22.3 points and 9.6 rebounds a game while shooting 63.5% from the field
Takeshi Croke – Camosun Chargers – he scored 14.1 points a game and shot 48.7% from the field
Camerson Gay – VIU Mariners – in his final season he averaged 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds a game and shot 53.6%
Tyrone Asenoguan -Capilano Blues – he shot 51.3% from the field and averaged 16.2 points a game and over six rebounds
Tori Odom – VIU Mariners – the shifty guard averaged 18.8 points, 7.1 rebounds a game and shot 50% from the field
Second Team All-Stars:
Omon Edobar – Okanagan Coyotes – he won the PACWEST scoring title averaging 28.2 points a game and shot 43.6% from the field
Richard Henderson – VIU Mariners – in his first PACWEST season he averaged 18.4 points, 8.6 rebounds a game and 52.9% from the field
Corez Johnson – Douglas Royals – in his first season he led the Royals offensively with 18.3 points a game and shot 41.8% from the field
Royce Sargeant – Langara Falcons – the point guard averaged 13.9 points a game and shot 38.6% from the field
Jake Wilmott – Camosun Chargers – in his final season he shot 30.5% from the field, averaged 10.5 points and 6.9 rebounds a game
All-Rookie Team:
David Mutabazi – CBC Bearcats – averaged a double-double with 16 points and 13.8 rebounds a game
Corez Johnson – Douglas Royals – led the Royals offensively with 18.3 points a game and shot 41.8% from the field
Jaime Palamos-Molins – Camosun Chargers – in his first season he collected over nine points a game and shot 46% from the field
Noah Helman – Camosun Chargers – he played in all 18 games, averaged over nine points a game and shot 55.7% from the field
Ajay Gill – Okanagan Coyotes – primarily coming off the bench he scored over eight points a game, shot 37% from the field and 34.3% from the three-point line
MAJOR AWARDS:
Defensive Player of the Year – Tori Odom – VIU Mariners – his quickness gave the opposition fits all season as he was usually matched up with the best player on the other side. He tallied 38 steals and forced numerous turnovers
Coach of the Year – Scot Cuachon – Camosun Chargers – he led the Chargers to their best seeding in school history with a 13-5 record and averaged over 80 points a game. He’s named Coach of the Year for the first time in his career.
Rookie of the Year – David Mutabazi – CBC Bearcats – he started every game as a rookie and led the Bearcats with 16 points and 13.8 rebounds a game
