It’s a massive Friday night with playoff positioning on the line when the Royals travel to face the Coyotes in Kelowna. These two teams are tied in the standings with 18 points each in the battle for third place and have played once this season with the Coyotes scoring an important 81-69 road win.
Speaking of the Coyotes they have won two straight and five of their last six to push their way up the standings. With the PACWEST championship tournament beginning next week the Coyotes will have their highest seeding since their program began, finishing either third or fourth and will be the “home team” in Thursday’s quarterfinal.
The Royals have sputtered as of late and have lost four in a row which started with the setback to the Coyotes on their home floor February 12th. That said they have been comfortable playing away from Douglas with a 5-3 road record, however their last road win was January 26th at CBC. With a victory on Friday night, it would set up a very interesting game on Saturday in the regular season finale with the tiebreaker up for grabs.

Friday night will be a battle for playoff positioning when the Royals visit the Coyotes to begin a very important final weekend doubleheader with these two teams tied with eight points in the standings. Just two weeks ago the Royals beat the Coyotes 96-89 to set up this showdown.
The Coyotes snapped their three-game slide last weekend with back-to-back wins to pull into a tie with the Royals and officially eliminate the CBC Bearcats from playoff contention. Their four wins this year have all come at home, a trend they are hoping continues this weekend. With a win it would put them in the driver seat for fifth place with the PACWEST championship tournament beginning on Thursday afternoon.
On the other side of the floor the Royals have dropped two in a row but played the country’s top team the VIU Mainers tough especially last Saturday night. With their victory over the Coyotes two weeks ago it does give them the advantage in a tiebreaker scenario. Another factor to watch this weekend is can the Royals win on the road as they are currently 0-8 away from Douglas this season. Regardless of the outcome this weekend the defending PACWEST champions will qualify for the playoffs finishing either fifth or sixth and will play in a quarterfinal on Thursday.
