Basketball Athletes of the Week
A pair of point guards run away with this weekly honour
The PACWEST is pleased to announce the Basketball Athletes of the Week following Week 10 of the regular season.
Female Basketball Athlete of the Week
Kirsten Abo – Capilano Blues
The fourth-year point guard went off for a career-best 40 points Friday in an 85-75 overtime win that gave her Blues the season series over VIU. She was 7-of-10 from three-point range and added five rebounds and two steals. With a tight turnaround to Saturday afternoon, Abo didn’t have as much success shooting the ball but contributed six assists, five rebounds and two steals. Abo’s 40 on Friday were the most points scored by a PACWEST basketball player this season, male or female.
Male Basketball Athlete of the Week
Tori Odom – VIU Mariners
On Friday, Tori Odom scored a game-high 29 points on 10-16 shooting as the Mariners topped 100 points for the third consecutive game downing the Capilano Blues on the road. Fourteen of those points came in a massive third quarter as the Mariners outscored the Blues 34-13 to take control of the game. He added four rebounds, three assists, and a steal in that contest. Then in Saturday’s rematch, Odom again earned a game-high in points with 27 and eight rebounds. He once again led a massive third-quarter push, scoring 11 points in the frame as the Mariners turned a tie game at the half into an 18-point lead going into the fourth. Odom added two steals and an assist to his stat line.
