Female Basketball Athlete of the Week
Ida Jonsson-Ojala – Capilano Blues
The 6-foot-2 forward led the Blues in scoring both games in a weekend sweep on the road at Camosun. She scored 13 points and pulled down 17 boards in Friday’s six-point victory and followed up with 18 points and five rebounds in a convincing win the next night. For the weekend, the import from Sweden was 11-for-16 from the floor (68.7%), added six assists and two blocks while also going 9-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Male Basketball Athlete of the Week
Akoi Yuot – VIU Mariners
In Friday’s 92-66 win at Langara, Yuot led the charge with 12 points in the first quarter and ended the game with a double-double, earning game highs in points (27) and rebounds (10) while collecting three of VIU’s 12 steals. Saturday’s game was a tight affair and while sitting on three fouls, Yuot kept attacking the basket and scored 12 of his 18 points in the third quarter to keep VIU in the game before the Mariners took charge in the fourth to earn the eight-point victory. His Saturday stat line also included eight rebounds, an assist, and a game-high three steals.
