SATURDAY
CBC Bearcats 3
Camosun Chargers 0
The CBC Bearcats clinched the final playoff spot in the PACWEST with a three-set sweep over the visiting Chargers on Saturday afternoon. The win is their fourth in their last five matches coming on strong to earn a berth in the postseason.
They came out on fire in the first set, winning 25-17 to set the tone and carried that momentum the rest of the way dominating the second set 25-11 before finishing off the Chargers 25-19 in third set.
The win sends the Bearcats into the playoffs as the fourth seed and will meet the #1 VIU Mariners on Friday night in a PACWEST semi-final.
Despite getting swept on the weekend, the Chargers, who had nothing to play for, will meet the #2 Capilano Blues in the other semi.
VIU Mariners 3
Capilano Blues 2
What a match on Saturday afternoon at Capilano as the Blues and Mariners closed out the regular season with a five-set thriller.
The Mariners picked up where they left off on Friday and won the first two-sets 25-20 and again 25-20 and looked to cruise to their 13th three-set sweep of the season but the Blues had other ideas.
In the third set, the Blues showed heart and battled to take the set 25-23 extending the match. They would draw even in the fourth set somehow finding a way to score extra points and down the Mariners 28-26 setting up a decisive fifth set.
In the finale, both teams traded points down to the wire before the Mariners found an extra gear and were able to complete the victory 15-13 for their 19th win of the campaign.
Next week the Mariners will host the PACWEST playoff tournament and are the #1 seed. They will meet the #4 seeded CBC Bearcats in a semi-final while the #2 Blues will meet the #3 Camosun Chargers in the other semi.
