A full slate of women's matches are set for this weekend
VIU Mariners @ CBC Bearcats – Friday January 17, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
The top ranked Mariners take their offensive powerhouse to Abbotsford on Friday night to battle the Bearcats at CBC.
After the home sweep last weekend, the Mariners have won nine straight which includes a pair of three-set sweeps over the Bearcats in mid-November. They certainly didn’t give up much that weekend holding the Bearcats to an average of 15 set points. The closest set ended in a 25-18 score.
With the Mariners flying on all cylinders, the Bearcats snapped their four-game losing streak last Saturday with a four-set win at COTR. They are still in the hunt for the final playoff spot, currently tied with the Avalanche in fourth place and play their next four at home.
These two schools will meet for the final time in the regular season on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm.
Capilano Blues @ COTR Avalanche – Friday January 17, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
It’s the second time this season that the Blues and Avalanche meet and will be the final time in the regular season.
After their weekend sweep over Douglas, the Blues find themselves in a second-place tie with the Camosun Chargers coming into this weekend. They have won five in a row as they embark on their final road trip of the season. Two of their five wins on this streak came against the Avalanche at Capilano at the end of November when they won in five and four sets respectively.
The Avalanche find themselves in a thick playoff hunt, trailing the Blues by six points in the standings. They are currently tied for the final post season spot with the CBC Bearcats and are coming off a weekend split. When looking at the standings, this is a very important weekend for the Avalanche if they want to make a push as the season starts to wind down.
Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm, these two teams will meet again to wrap up Week 9 of the regular season.
Douglas Royals @ Camosun Chargers – Friday January 17, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
This will be an important weekend for both the Chargers and Royals in the playoff picture.
The Chargers are coming off a disappointing sweep at VIU last weekend which pushed them back into a second-place tie with the surging Capilano Blues. The Chargers have now lost three of their last four and are looking to find some momentum against a Royals team that they swept in mid-November winning in three and five sets respectively. The Chargers are eight points back of the Mariners for first place, and eight points up on the Royals in the standings.
Speaking of the standings, the Royals are on the outside looking in at the playoff scenario sitting in sixth place. They are two points back of the final playoff spot but have lost their last six matches, and need to find some positive momentum moving forward as they play their next four on the road.
These two schools will meet again on Saturday at 1:00pm in the final match of Week 9.
