Make it four in a row for the VIU Mariners women’s volleyball team as they beat the Douglas Royals to win the national championship title and gold medal.
The CCAA and PACWEST Player of the Year Jane Lytvynenko was sensation collecting a match high 22 kills, had an ace and nine digs. Danielle Groenedijk wins her fourth gold medal after recording 18 kills, seven digs and had a block assist. Setter Linnea Brickwood was named the Player of the Match running a well-balanced offensive attack with 44 setter assists, three kills, four aces, 11 digs and a block assist.
On the other side the PACWEST champion Douglas Royals fought hard but came up short of their season goal. They win their third ever national silver medal behind another strong performance from rookie Talia Attieh who had 14 kills and Grace McGillivray added 12 and was named the Royals Player of the Match. In her final collegiate match, setter Jane Kepler recorded 36 setter assists, had eight digs, a block and even recorded a kill.
