Talia Attieh has come alive in this tournament leading the Royals with 30 kills while Grace McGillivray has collected 16. Setter Jane Kepler has been steady running the offence with 64 assists.
On the other side the three-time defending national champion Mariners are back in the gold medal match following a dominating three-set sweep over the ACAC champion Red Deer Queens on Saturday and a four-set win over the RSEQ champion Lynx d’Edouard-Montpetit on Friday. Offensively the CCAA Player of the Year Jane Lytvynenko has been outstanding collecting 37 kills in the two matches and veteran Danielle Groenendijk has 24 for a lethal 1-2 punch.
Today’s tilt is also a rematch of the 2018 national championship in which the Mariners won in four sets. Groenendijk was named a tournament First Team All-Star and Kepler a Second Team All-Star. Since 2012 the Mariners have won five gold medals, while the Royals have never won a national title.
