Coach's Comment - Rebecca Garner
First year head coach of the CBC Bearcats women's volleyball team talks about not playing
On March 31st of last year the CBC Bearcats announced Rebecca Garner as the new head coach of the women’s volleyball program. She has still yet to coach a match.
Garner is no stranger to the Bearcats program having played two seasons in Abbotsford from 2015-2017. She then transferred to Briercrest to finish her degree and collegiate volleyball playing career before returning to CBC for her first coaching stint.
Days after her hiring the pandemic shutdown the PACWEST and any team activities. Now with restrictions slightly lifted Garner has been able to get onto the floor for some coaching sessions with her team. That said, she’s still been waiting almost a year to sign the scorer’s sheet as the head coach in her first official match. She talks with Ryan Watters about how a first year head coach has been dealing with the pandemic and keeping her team motivated.
