Mike Teeter, Director of Athletics & Recreation at Columbia Bible College, is pleased to announce that Rebecca Garner will be the new head coach for women’s volleyball. Garner will succeed Duncan Harrison and start immediately.
“I know Rebecca will do a terrific job with the young women that are a part of our women’s volleyball program. Her upbeat, passionate and joyful personality are contagious. We could not hope for a better example of someone who desires to live out our values of being Christ-centred and tenaciously competitive.” states Teeter.
Garner is no stranger to CBC, having spent her first two years of collegiate play with the Bearcats. She was on the PACWEST All-Rookie team in 2015-2016 behind a performance of 214 kills in 90 sets and an impressive 194 digs. The following season 2016-2017, she collected 292 kills in 86 sets. She then transferred to Briercrest to finish her degree in humanities. Over her time at Briercrest, Garner and her team had many achievements. This spring Garner’s team was the ACAC Champions and Garner was named the ACAC Tournament MVP. She also received the CCAA Nationals Chuck Gullickson Exemplary Leadership Award both in 2019 and 2020. She was also a CCAA Nationals Tournament All Star and an ACAC All Conference Outside Hitter for the season.
A young coach, Garner comes to her new role with good coaching experience. “Becky is a passionately committed individual who pushes those around her towards excellence. Her commitment to faith, volleyball, and zeal for life rubs off on those around her and is a key component to her ability to impact those she comes in contact with in a positive way. As a coach, she has directed the Action Beach Volleyball Program the past three years, coached at Volleyball BC’s Baden Cup and has led numerous volleyball camps. Becky is a relational individual who has a constant desire to get better as a coach and leader and expects the same from those around her.” shares Jason Warkentin, Athletes in Action Volleyball Youth Camps Director & CBC Men’s Volleyball Coach.
Along with announcing Rebecca Garner as the new head coach for women’s volleyball. CBC looks forward to bringing on Ryan Adams as a mentor coach for Garner. Adams, an Athletes in Actions Volleyball staff member since 2006 has also been a former youth national team head coach and will be the head coach for Team BC 2021 Canada Summer Games. Adams has also been a head coach at the collegiate level and an assistant coach multiple times for U-Sport teams. “We are excited to have someone with the level of experience and depth of volleyball knowledge that Ryan brings helping Rebecca as she begins her collegiate coaching career.” comments Teeter.
