Women's Soccer Wraps Up
It was the final weekend of the women's soccer schedule
SATURDAY
VIU Mariners 3
Langara Falcons 3
It was a shootout on Saturday when the Mariners and Falcons battled and combined for six goals at Langara.
The Falcons got the party started early in the sixth minute when Alex Paul scored her fifth of the season. Then a minute later she scored again, giving the Falcons a two-goal advantage.
Those two quick goals didn’t seem to phrase the Mariners who cut the lead in half when Ella Gignac scored her first of the year in the ninth minute.
Just before halftime Paul scored yet again for her second hat trick of the season when she found the back of the net in the 42nd minute restoring the Falcons two-goal lead. It was her seventh marker of the year.
In the second half the Mariners turned it up a notch and their elevated play paid off in the 62nd minute when Mya Creed scored her second of the season. Then just seven minutes later Tori Hauptman tied the game with her first of the campaign.
That would be all the scoring the teams could muster as they finished in a 3-3 tie, both earning important points in the standings.
Douglas Royals 2
Capilano Blues 0
The Royals earned a massive win on Saturday with a clean sheet over the first place Blues. Pak Tung Tsang scored her first of the season and Alyna Green tallied her second in the win.
SUNDAY
Capilano Blues 1
Langara Falcons 0
The Blues clinched first place and a bye into the PACWEST gold medal game with a clean sheet over the Falcons on Sunday. Alanah Dulong scored her Conference leading eighth goal that held up for the game winner.
VIU Mariners 1
Douglas Royals 1
In a semi-final preview the Mariners and Royals played to 1-1 tie to wrap up the regular season.
The first goal didn’t come until the 41st minute as the Royals opened the scoring when Sarah Svetic tallied her second of the year. That goal would be the only marker of the first half.
With the game going back and forth, the Mariners struck for the equalizer in the 78th minute when Tori Hauptman collected her second of the weekend and second of the season.
From there the backlines and keepers took over and held the opposition from scoring. Six-points separates these two teams in the standings who will now face each other on Saturday in a PACWEST semi-final in Nanaimo.
