Blues Battle Trojans
The PACWEST champs will play in a bronze medal semi-final on Friday morning
After a heartbreaking penalty kick loss on Thursday at the CCAA nationals in the semi-final, the Capilano Blues move over to the bronze medal side of the bracket.
The Blues matched up perfectly with the Vanier Cheetahs in the semi-final on Thursday which ended regulation time in a scoreless tie. Both teams had their chances but the keepers stood tall and kept the shots out of the net.
Without overtime at the nationals, the teams went right into a penalty kick session. Four of the five shooters for the Blues scored, but unfortunately all five scored for the Cheetahs ending the Blues hope for a gold medal.
They will have to rebound quickly and will face the SAIT Trojans in the bronze medal semi-final early Friday morning. The Trojans lost their opener on Wednesday to the host Humber Hawks 3-0, but did bounce back on Thursday with a 2-0 win over Sainte-Boniface from Manitoba.
During the regular season the Trojans finished 6-0 in the ACAC and won the Conference with a 1-0 win over the NAIT Ooks from Edmonton. They scored 36 goals and are led by Meaghan Wiebe who had 13 of those markers. She hasn’t scored at the nationals as Jordynn McPherson and Emma Wood tallied on Thursday.
Friday’s game between the Blues and Trojans is set for 7:00am PST. The winner will play for the CCAA bronze medal.
