The Blues CCAA Quarterfinal Match-Up
The Capilano Blues women's soccer team will face the Fanshawe Falcons in the CCAA quarterfinals
The Capilano Blues women’s soccer team is preparing for the 2021 CCAA national championship tournament which opens on Wednesday in Ontario.
The PACWEST champion Blues will face the Ontario Conference champion Fanshawe Falcons in the quarterfinals at 9:30am PST. It will be a tough task for the Blues right out of the gate as the Falcons are the three-time Ontario champion. They beat the St. Lawrence Surge 2-1 and are now unbeaten in Conference play in 36 straight games.
During the regular season the Falcons finished 5-0-1 outscoring the opposition 41-4 and are led by fifth year senior Kayla McQueen. She led the nation in scoring with an incredible 17 goals in the Falcons’ six games.
The Falcons are back in the nationals after losing in the CCAA bronze medal game in 2019. They have never won a gold medal at this tournament, while the Blues last won the title in 2001.
The last time the Blues represented the PACWEST at the nationals was in 2007 when it was held in Halifax. They opened with a 6-0 win over the University of King’s College, but then fell to Mount Royal College 1-0 in the semis, before losing in the bronze medal game 5-1 to Durham College.
It will be a fun game to watch as the Blues put their 7-1-1 regular season record to the test and will need a special performance from their defence and keeper Sabrina Lam.
