A pair of games on the final Saturday of the regular season
VIU Mariners (2-4-1) @ Douglas Royals (5-1-1) – Saturday October 23, 1:00pm – Cunnings Field | WATCH HERE
Saturday afternoon the Mariners and Royals meet for the final time in the regular season in an important match-up for both teams.
The Royals find themselves in a first place tie with the Capilano Blues with 16 points while the Mariners have all but wrapped up third place and could face these same Royals in the PACWEST semi-final next weekend.
So far this season the Royals have had great success against the defending champs shutting the Mariners out 1-0 and 2-0 with Elisha Machado closing the door each time. Amanda Hila has scored twice in the seasonal series and Christine Singh recorded the other.
Coming into the weekend the Royals have won two straight while the Mariners have one win in their last six games.
Langara Falcons (0-6-1) @ Capilano Blues (5-1-1) – Saturday October 23, 6:45pm – Warren Field @ UBC | WATCH HERE
These two schools will meet for the final time this season as they sit at opposite ends of the standings. The Blues are in a first place tie with the Douglas Royals while the Falcons have just one point this season courtesy of a tie.
The Falcons get an opportunity to play the spoiler role as the Blues need a win in a battle for the top spot and ultimately a bye into the PACWEST gold medal game next weekend.
In the two previous games this season the Blues have beaten the Falcons 2-0 and 3-1 with five different goal scorers. Sabrina Lam earned a shutout in their first meeting but didn’t have to make a save as the Blues limited the opposition and their chances.
The only Falcon to find the back of the net in the seasonal series has been Rachel Barker.
The Blues played on Wednesday afternoon as part of a rescheduled game on the Island, which could play a factor this weekend.
