VIU Mariners vs. SAIT Trojans – Friday March 14, 4:00pm PST | BRONZE SEMI-FINAL

The PACWEST champion Mariners face the ACAC champion Trojans in a bronze medal semi-final on Friday afternoon, the winner will play for bronze, the loser’s season will end.

The Mariners defence led the way on Thursday morning as they beat the ACAA champion MSVU Mystics 67-52, holding them to 28% shooting.  The Mariners played a very clean game with the Mystics only making it to the free-throw line twice, compared to 36 attempts by the Mariners.

Offensively the Mariners struggled for the second straight game shooting 25% from the field.  Harriette Mackenzie was named Player of the Game with 23 points and 16 rebounds in another outstanding performance, but it was the play of Mackenzie Cox that led her club to victory.  In 31 minutes of court time she dropped 15 points, had seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.

They advance to the bronze medal semi-final and will face the Trojans from Calgary who are coming off a loss to the CBC Bearcats on Thursday 63-55 in which their starters scored all but two of their points.  It was just the second loss the Trojans have suffered this season after winning 20 times during the regular campaign and their quarterfinal 73-44 over the St. Thomas Tommies on Wednesday.   Anegor Wol led the Trojans in their loss to the Bearcats with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The winner will advance to play for CCAA bronze on Saturday at 1:00pm.
