Bearcats Making History
The CBC Bearcats will play their first game on the national stage
CBC Bearcats vs. Geants de Saint-Jean – Wednesday March 12, 4:00pm PST | QUARTERFINAL
History will be made on Wednesday when the CBC Bearcats play their first ever game on the national stage as they open the CCAA women’s national championship in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
The Bearcats are a wildcard seed and will face the RSEQ champs from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, about 40 minutes west of Montreal.
During the regular season the Bearcats tallied over 74 points a game and shot 35% from the field. Their interior defence and extremely quick guard play made them a difficult team to score on. They held their PACWEST opponents to 59 points a game, forcing 17 turnovers in each contest and holding teams to average 30% from the field. They are in a unique spot having lost their last game, but still advanced into the national championship. All-Canadian Elissa Vreugdenhil has been outstanding all year averaging a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds each game.
They face the Geants who won the RSEQ title with a convincing 76-52 win over the Dawson College Blues for the gold medal. They only lost one game all year which came in November, so they come into the national championship tournament on a high. They will meet a Bearcats team that is physical and hungry to show the rest of the country they belong in this championship.
The winner of this game advances to the semi-final on Thursday.
