Women's Friday Night Recap
The Mariners, Royals and Chargers win on Friday night
Camosun Chargers 70
Capilano Blues 55
With an upset win on Friday night, the Chargers leapfrog into the final playoff spot in women’s basketball, now two points up on the Okanagan Coyotes with one game to play.
The Chargers got it done shooting 41% from the field with both Sevene Grewal and Maren Bilsky each scoring 20 points and Kanda Diop was on fire with 18 points and 17 rebounds.
Their defensive scheme held the Blues to just 29% shooting, but Barcha Hnizdilova was solid with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Any combination of a Chargers win or Coyotes loss on Saturday, and the Chargers will clinch the final playoff spot. The Blues have all but locked down fourth place in the standings. A win would automatically clinch fourth.

VIU Mariners 71
Langara Falcons 38
The Mariners shot 38% from the field and cruised to the lopsided win after outscoring the Falcons 25-9 in the first quarter.
Offensively they were led by Harriette Mackenzie off the bench who scored a game high 27 points and Makayla Kimble chipped in with 10.
With the victory, it clinches first place in the standings and the Mariners will have a bye into next week’s semifinals.
The Falcons didn’t find too many easy shooting lanes and finished connecting at 24% from the field. They currently hold the fifth seed in the standings and will need to upset the Mariners by a lopsided score and get some help from the Chargers if they want to leap into fourth place. Regardless they know they will meet the Capilano Blues in a quarterfinal next weekend.

Douglas Royals 90
Okanagan Coyotes 62
The third seeded Royals were solid on both sides of the floor on Friday night shooting 37% offensively and holding the Coyotes to just 26%.
On the offensive side they got production from up and down the lineup, but it was Karishma Rai who nailed six-three pointers and finished with a game high 26 points.
The Coyotes didn’t have much of an answer, but Jasmine Montgomery-Reid did collect a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
With the setback and the Chargers upset win at Capilano, the Coyotes now find themselves on the outside looking in at the postseason. They need a win on Saturday afternoon and a Chargers loss to reclaim the final playoff spot.
