Regular Season Finale
Women's basketball tips off the final weekend of the regular season
VIU Mariners @ Langara Falcons – Friday February 21, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
The Mariners juggernaut rolls into Langara this weekend to face the Falcons for the final time in the regular season. They need just one win to officially clinch the #1 seed ahead of the PACWEST championship tournament next weekend.
This will be the second doubleheader weekend between these two schools after the Mariners plucked the Falcons by an average of 34-points in November. They have won 14 straight games and have been undefeated on the road this year as they will wrap up the regular season this weekend.
Offensively they are shooting 37% from the field and averaging over 76 points a game.
The Falcons have played well recently winning three of their last four and all on the road. They return home for the final time this season this weekend. They are currently seeded fifth, two points back of the Capilano Blues for the fourth spot. If the Falcons can upset the Mariners and get some help from the Camosun Chargers, the Falcons could leap into fourth.
Saturday afternoon these schools will meet for the final time at 1:00pm.
Okanagan Coyotes @ Douglas Royals – Friday February 21, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
Regardless of what happens this weekend, the Royals know they are the third seed heading into the playoffs next weekend and could face the Coyotes in a quarterfinal.
These two meet for a weekend doubleheader beginning on Friday night at Douglas after the Royals scored wins of 30 and 38 points respectively in their first meeting in November. They shot 44.8% as a team and had several players hit the scoresheet led by Karishma Rai who averaged 13 points a game.
They are looking to get back into the win column after getting swept last weekend at CBC and want to head into the playoffs on a high note.
The Coyotes did not shoot the ball well against the Royals at just 25.9% and nothing came easy against their tough defence as Paula Ortiz Caballero was their high scorer averaging 13.5 a game. The Coyotes need a victory to secure the final playoff spot and a quarterfinal date with the Royals next weekend. They are tied with the Camosun Chargers for the final spot, but do own the tiebreaker and the Chargers are at Capilano this weekend.
Saturday afternoon the Royals and Coyotes will meet again at 1:00pm.
Camosun Chargers @ Capilano Blues – Friday February 21, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
It’s the final weekend of the regular season and these two schools are not fully certain of their playoff positioning.
The Blues come into the weekend as the fourth seed, however they are only two points up on the Langara Falcons, while the Chargers are currently on the outside looking in.
It’s the second weekend doubleheader between these two schools after the Blues won both at Camosun by scores of 13 and 11 points respectively in November. They shot 31.1% from the field with Mia Parkin leading the way with 19 points a game.
It has been a tough second half for the Blues winning twice in their 10 games, but those two wins were last weekend, giving them some momentum coming into the regular season finales.
It’s also been a difficult year for the Chargers with just three wins on the campaign. They need a couple of upset wins this weekend along with some help to get into the postseason, currently fighting for the final playoff spot in the standings. Against the Blues in November they shot 29% and Sevene Grewal averaged 16.5 points per game.
They will meet for the final time this regular season on Saturday at 1:00pm.
