Women's Week 13 Hoops Preview
Three big matchups with playoff positioning on the line
Douglas Royals @ CBC Bearcats – Thursday February 13, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
Week 13 of the PACWEST women’s basketball season opens on Thursday this week with a massive game at CBC as the Bearcats (17-3) welcome the Royals (15-5).
Just four points separates these two schools in the standings in the battle for second place and ultimately a first-round bye at the PACWEST championship tournament.
The Bearcats currently hold down that second seed on a 15-game winning streak. Their last loss was on November 1st at Douglas as the Royals claimed the 17-point victory. The next night the Bearcats got the weekend split with a 16-point win of their own which then started their lengthy win streak.
Both offenses during that weekend doubleheader in November struggled to put points on the board. The Bearcats shot 26% from the field, while the Royals shot 24.5% including just 15% in their loss.
Elissa Vreugdenhil led all scorers averaging 14 points per game with Mackenzie Dalphond countering for the Royals dropping in 13 a game.
Since the calendar turned to February, the Bearcats average margin of victory has been an eye-popping 34 points, something they are looking to continue in their final two games of the regular season.
The Royals have been almost equally as hot as the Bearcats and have won two of their last three games. They are on the road for the final time this year, a place they have been very comfortable with an 8-2 record. As a team this year they have shot 36% and scored 73-points a game.
These two schools will meet for the final time in the regular season on Saturday evening at 6:00pm.
Capilano Blues @ Okanagan Coyotes – Friday February 14, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
This weekend the Blues make their way to Kelowna for a doubleheader against the Coyotes as these two schools meet for the second weekend this season.
In November the Blues swept the Coyotes at Capilano with wins of 22 and eight points respectively. They shot 46% and had excellent balanced scoring with three players averaging over 20 points a game, led by Madeleine Coffin and her 26.5 points.
The Blues have struggled mightily since the calendar flipped to 2025 and have lost eight straight, still looking for their first win of the new year. This trip to Kelowna is their final roady of the season.
The Coyotes have had a tough campaign and have lost six straight coming into this weekend. That said, they are hanging on to the final playoff spot in the standings by just two points. Against the Blues in November they shot 35% and Faith Hunter was their leading scorer averaging 16 points a contest.
This will be their final homestand of the year as they’ll finish the regular season at Douglas.
These two schools will meet for the final time on Saturday at 1:00pm.
Langara Falcons @ Camosun Chargers – Friday February 14, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
This will be the final time the Falcons and Chargers meet this season and there are some crucial points up for grabs in the standings.
The Falcons are coming off their bye week and should be well-rested to meet the Chargers. Prior to their bye week the Falcons swept the Capilano Blues in North Vancouver and are currently tied with the Blues for fourth place in the standings. A pair of wins over the Chargers could give the Falcons sole possession of fourth as they play their final road games of the year.
In November, these teams split their weekend at Langara. The Chargers won the first game by nine points, before the Falcons rebounded to claim a nine-point win of their own.
That Charger win at Langara was the last time they tasted victory as they have struggled all season losing 17 in a row and will be at home for the last time this year. Despite the long losing streak, they find themselves just two points out of the final playoff spot with four games to play. A win or two over the Falcons would be just what the doctor ordered for their last push to get into the final dance.
These schools will meet again on Saturday in the rematch at 1:00pm.
