A full schedule of games in women's basketball this weekend
Capilano Blues @ VIU Mariners – Friday February 7, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
There are 20 points separating the Mariners and Blues in the standings as these schools meet for the second weekend this season.
The Mariners are the #1 seed coming into the weekend with a four-point lead over the second place CBC Bearcats. They have won 12 straight and are averaging over 77-points a game, shooting 37.4% from the field. They last saw the Blues in mid-November and swept the weekend with an average margin of victory of 39 points.
Since turning the calendar, the Blues have struggled and haven’t won a game, losing six in a row. They find themselves on the road for the next four looking to turn the ship around. Currently they are in a fourth-place tie with the idle Langara Falcons and have two games in hand.
These two will meet again on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm.
CBC Bearcats @ Okanagan Coyotes – Friday February 7, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
As the Bearcats and Coyotes prepare to meet for the second weekend doubleheader this year they find themselves in two completely different positions.
The Bearcats are currently the second seed with a four-point lead on the third seeded Douglas Royals. If the playoffs started today, they would receive a bye into the semi-final. They are the hottest team in the Conference, winning 13 straight games and offensively they are averaging 72.5 points per game and are shooting 34%. At the end of November, they dismantled the Coyotes at CBC sweeping the doubleheader by an average of 33-points.
It’s been a different kind of season for the Coyotes who are coming off a much-needed bye week and have lost four in a row. They are fighting for their playoff lives, holding down the final playoff spot by just two-points with six games to go. They are at home for the next four games hoping to build upon their lead.
These two teams will play again on Saturday at 1:00pm.
Douglas Royals @ Camosun Chargers – Friday February 7, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
The Royals and Chargers meet for the second weekend doubleheader this season, but this time the scene shifts to the snowy island for games on Friday and Saturday.
Coming into the weekend, the Royals sit comfortably as the third seed, but are still vying for more, only four points back of the second-place spot. They had their nine-game winning streak snapped last weekend and will now play their next four on the road. In November, they took both games off the Chargers winning by 31 and 29 points respectively which were part of them nine-game streak. Overall, they are scoring 72.6 points a game and shooting 35%.
It’s been a difficult season for the Chargers but still find themselves fighting for the final playoff spot, just two points out. They are at home for the next four games trying to snap their 15-game slide and push for that playoff spot.
These two will meet again on Saturday at 1:00pm.
