Women's Week 16 Basketball Preview
The regular season comes to a close this weekend with important games on the schedule
Douglas Royals @ Okanagan Coyotes – Friday February 23, 6:00pm | WATCH HERE
The PACWEST basketball season concludes this weekend.
Friday night the Royals visit the Coyotes as these two schools meet for the first time since Week 1 of the season in October when they split their weekend doubleheader. Plenty has changed since they last met, but one thing they have in common is that they are both playoff bound.
The Royals know they will finish fourth in the standings and the Coyotes locked down the sixth spot after their victory last weekend. The Coyotes will have homecourt advantage in the playoffs as the host of the championship tournament next weekend.
Coming into this weekend the Royals should be well rested after their bye week. They have won three of their last four games and have been very good on the road this season at 7-3. Overall, they are averaging 62.1 points a game and shooting 33%.
Meanwhile the Coyotes clinched the final playoff spot last weekend with a split with Langara. They have won two of their last three games and will try and build off that momentum against a very solid Royals team. All season the Coyotes have lived and died by the three-pointer shooting 26.4% however last weekend they started to show success in the paint.
These two teams will meet again on Saturday afternoon for their final game of the regular season at 1:00pm | WATCH HERE
VIU Mariners @ Langara Falcons – Friday February 23, 6:00m | WATCH HERE
This weekend the Mariners and Falcons will wrap up the regular season with back-to-back games.
The Mariners have already clinched first place in the standings while the Falcons have been eliminated from playoff contention so both teams are playing for different things this weekend.
They last met during the first weekend of December with the Mariners cruising to a pair of victories by an average of 36.5 points. As a matter of fact, they held the Falcons to just 33 points scored in their first meeting.
Away from Nanaimo the Mariners are 8-2 on the road this season looking to ride a high heading into the PACWEST championship tournament as the top seed. With their first place finish they receive a bye straight into the semi-final and will await their opponent.
It’s been a tough season for the Falcons who have tasted victory just five times this year and will have to watch the postseason unfold from the outside. It’s the first time since the 2018 season that they will miss the playoffs.

Capilano Blues @ Camosun Chargers – Saturday February 24, 3:00pm | WATCH HERE
The Blues and Chargers won’t play until Saturday then wrap up the regular season as the only game on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues have clinched second place and a first-round bye in the playoffs and looking at their roster they need all the rest they can get. Last weekend they dressed only seven players due to injuries and have been shorthanded for most of the month of February. They have lost three straight and are desperately hoping by the time the championship tournament rolls around they will be healthier.
They face a Chargers team that have also lost three straight but have locked down the fifth seed heading into the playoffs and a quarterfinal date with the Douglas Royals.
In December these two schools met for the first time with the Blues winning both games at Capilano. They were exciting and close with the Blues winning 62-57 and 78-72 in overtime.
Though nothing changes in the standings following the outcome this weekend, both teams are wanting to enter the postseason on a high note with a victory or two.
Sunday afternoon they will conclude the regular season scheduled at 12:00pm | WATCH HERE
