Get To Know: Okanagan Coyotes
The defending PACWEST champs are ready to howl into 2022-2023
The Okanagan Coyotes will open their PACWEST title defence on November 11th when they raise last year’s championship banner and host the Dougals Royals.
It’s the first time in school history the Coyotes are the chased instead of the chaser. They will feature an excellent mix of veterans and new players with four starters back in the line-up and eight first year athletes with plenty of upside.
The PACWEST Coach of the Year Andrew Gini also returns to lead the club and is joined by former Coyote Maddy Postnikoff who enters her third season as an assistant.
Key Returners:
Soleil Wilding was the emotional leader for the Coyotes last season and has the ability to knockdown a three-pointer from anywhere on the floor. Last year she tallied 13.2 points a game, making 33-three pointers, averaging 27 minutes a game and shot 34% from the field.
Julia Kreitz returns as an important player who started all 16 games last year in the backcourt. She collected 32 assists, averaging over 26 minutes a game. She also shot 37% from the field and scored over four points a game. She was a defensive specialist making 31 steals.
Key Additions:
Ryley Bullock is a local Kelowna product who enters the program after graduating from Okanagan Mission Secondary (OKM). She is a tremendous athlete who has all the tools to make an immediate impact in the PACWEST.
Key Loss:
All-Star Jordan Kemper has transferred to the University of Calgary to play for the Dinos program. She averaged over 17 points a game last season shooting over 42% from the field. She leaves massive sneakers to fill as the rest of the Coyotes will need to step up their scoring in her absence.
The Coyotes will open the season with four straight games at home hosting the Royals, Mariners, Bearcats and Chargers. Their first road game isn’t until December 2nd when they visit Capilano.
