The Blues, Mariners and Royals all won to wrap up Week 9

The Mariners earned their second straight lopsided victory after outscoring the Bearcats 24-11 in the first quarter. They shot 38% and Harriette Mackenzie was unstopped with her second double-double in as many days, finishing with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Courney Buckley drilled four-three pointers and added 14 points.
The Bearcats couldn’t dig themselves out of the first quarter hole, shooting 30% in the ballgame. They turned the ball over 32 times which didn’t help their case. Sam Leyenhorst led them with 13 points.
Next weekend the Mariners (11-1) will visit the Capilano Blues (11-1) in a first place showdown while the Bearcats (0-12) travel to face the Camosun Chargers (5-7).

Langara Falcons 56
For the second straight night the Blues rolled past the Falcons playing an outstanding road game shooting 41%. Kirsten Abo was solid with a game high 21 points and Madeleine Coffin was one point away from a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
The Falcons fell behind early and couldn’t recover shooting 37% overall with Claire Huang leading the way with 19 points while Davian Tsang dropped in 11.
Next weekend the Blues (11-1) host the VIU Mariners (11-1) with first place on the line, and the Falcons (2-10) will enjoy the bye week.
Douglas Royals 79
Okanagan Coyotes 77
For the second straight night the Royals and Coyotes came down to the wire with just a single hoop the difference in the game with the home side coming out victorious.
The Royals shot 40% and nailed 10-three pointers getting massive production from their bench as Raushan Bindra and Elena Skalik combined for 28 points and five-three pointers. Karalee Antoine tallied a team high 18 points and Laini Glover finished with 12 points and 11 boards which included a pair of free-throws with five seconds left to win it.
The Coyotes had a chance to tie or win it following the made free throws but couldn’t come up with a good look at the basket and time expired. Soleil Wilding and Ryley Bullock each had 15 points to pace their club.
Next weekend both the Royals (9-5) and Coyotes (5-7) will enjoy a bye.
