The VIU Mariners meet the Dawson Blues in today's semi-final

In front of their hometown crowd on Friday night the VIU Mariners handed the Lakeland Rustlers their first loss of the season and have moved onto the CCAA national semi-final following a 76-72 victory. The Mariners poured it on in the fourth quarter outscoring the ACAC champions 23-17 on route to the victory. Chloe Scaber was brilliant off the bench with 17 points while Harriette Mackenzie also came off the bench for 12 points and 11 rebounds, she was named the Player of the Game. As a team they shot 32% from the field with just one starter reaching the double-digit plateau.
They will face the RSEQ champion Dawson Blues who took down the OCAA champion Humber Hawks 81-70 on Friday night. They shot 39.5% from the field with a very balanced attack led by Jayla Owen and her team high 19 points. Eden Monka was solid with 15 points and Lily-Rose Chatila tallied 14 including three-three pointers.
This is rematch of the 2019 bronze medal game that the Blues won 74-64 when the tournament was hosted in Quebec.
The winner of this game will play for a national gold medal while the loser heads to the bronze medal side of the bracket.
