PACWEST At Home - Shayce Johnston
Fifth year senior feels a bit ripped off from last year's basketball season
Last season the VIU Mariners had a number of different weapons offensively shooting either from the outside or posting up the opposition.
The offence was balanced averaging over 80 points a game on route to a PACWEST gold medal and a berth in the CCAA national championship that they were already set to host. Unfortunately for the Mariners they didn’t get a chance to test themselves against the rest of the country as the championship tournament was cancelled due to the COVD-19 pandemic.
One of the brightest players on the Mariners’ roster was Shayce Johnston who once again proved she is one of the best across the entire Conference. She was named a First Team All-Star averaging over 10 points and 8.4 rebounds a game. She did only play 12 games this past season but shot 46% from the field when she was in there. In the PACWEST title game she was the only Mariner to score in double digits leading her club with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Now entering her fifth and final season she talked with Ryan Watters recently to discuss the upcoming season and answers the question of “do you feel ripped off on not hosting the CCAA nationals?” WATCH
