Blues Begin Title Defence
The Capilano Blues open their PACWEST title defence on Friday night
The Capilano Blues will begin defence of their PACWEST championship title on Friday night when they hit the road and visit the CBC Bearcats.
The biggest change for the Blues is in their leadership after head coach Ramin Sadaghiani stepped down following last season. They also lose PACWEST Player of the Year Carmelle M’Bikata and the PACWEST’s all-time assist leader Ashley dela Cruz Yip.
The Blues search for a new head coach didn’t have to go far as long-time assistant Chris Weimer takes the helm making the transition an easy one. Weimer was an assistant under Sadaghiani for six seasons and becomes the eighth Blues head coach in school history.
Looking at the upcoming season the Blues will be on the younger side and Weimer says, “I expect us to endure some growing pains in the early part of the season, but expecting things to come together in the New Year and playing our best basketball come February. Our main goal is to get better with each game we play.”
