The PACWEST champions are coming back home with a national silver medal wrapped around their neck.
The Royals outstanding season came to an end on Saturday night falling to the Red Deer Kings in three straight sets in the CCAA gold medal match falling 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18. The Kings were a stacked team and didn’t give up much holding the Royals attackers at bay. Marvin Tumusiime was the primary source of their scoring with 15 kills, while Luke Hans had three and Nik Robbles added a pair with setter Elijah Kim in his final match recording 21 assists.
The silver is the Royals’ first national medal since winning a silver in 2012.
It was an excellent tournament for the Royals after winning PACWEST gold two weeks ago. They beat the ACAA champion Dragons de Sainte-Anne in the quarterfinals, then blasted the CMU Blazers in three straight sets in the semi-final punching their ticket to the title match where they ran into the buzzsaw of the Kings.
Following the tournament the All-Stars were announced, and three Royals were honoured:
Second Team All-Star
Tyler Tran
First Team All-Stars
Marvin Tumusiime
Elijah Kim
