The 2024-2025 roster of the COTR Avalanche made history yet again this year, by winning the program’s first ever match at the national championship tournament with a four-set victory over the host and Manitoba champion Providence Pilots.
Thursday afternoon in the bronze medal quarterfinal they won the opening set 25-17 setting the tone early. The Pilots, to their credit, won the next set 25-16 to even the match, before the Avalanche found another gear and dominated the next two sets 25-16 and 25-21 to win and advance at the CCAA national championship tournament.
Offensively Diego Policarpo led the way with 13 kills, but did get some secondary scoring. Noah Hadwen was excellent with 11 kills and Luke Margenau was named the Player of the Match adding nine in the victory while setter Boston Thiessen ran a very balanced attack with 32 assists.
The Avalanche now advance to the bronze medal semi-final where they will face either the Douglas Royals or CMU Blazers on Friday night.
