Avalanche Make School History
The COTR Avalanche are on the national stage for the first time as they meet Humber in a quarterfinal
COTR Avalanche vs. Humber Hawks – Wednesday March 5, 8:00pm CST / 7:00pm MST
History will be made this evening when the Avalanche appear on the national stage for the first time in school history.
The Avalanche (15-5) are the PACWEST silver medalists and a wildcard this year at the national championship in Manitoba and will meet the Humber Hawks tonight, the champions of the OCAA, in a quarterfinal.
Nerves will no doubt play a factor early on for the Avalanche but they should settle in after the first few points or following a big kill from All-Canadian Diego Policarpo or a stuff block by Ethan Braam. They meet a Hawks team who have won five straight Ontario Conference championships, but haven’t won national gold since 2012. They finished 16-2 during the regular season campaign and lost only one set in their two-match playoff round.
On the defensive side the Avalanche will need to know where Teyven Blackmore is at all times as the OCAA Player of the Year. He tallied 187 kills, 32 service aces and six blocks in 16 matches and was Ontario’s West Division scoring champion averaging over four points each set.
It’ll be fun to watch Policarpo and Blackmore go head-to-head trying to give their own team the advantage.
The winner will advance to the national semi-final round on Thursday.
