Another Five Set Thriller
The Mariners pull out another incredible win over the visiting Avalanche
VIU Mariners 3
COTR Avalanche 2
For the second straight night, the Mariners hand the visiting Avalanche a fifth-set loss in another thrilling match between these top two teams.
The Mariners jumped out in front with a 25-18 victory in the first set before the Avalanche came storming back.
With Diego Policarpo sitting on the bench in street clothes, the Avalanche went to work. They would win the second set 26-24 to even the match, then would pull ahead winning the third set 27-25.
That momentum didn’t last long because the Mariners found an extra gear and came right back to even the match again with a 25-14 victory forcing a fifth set, like they did on Thursday. In the decisive set the Mariners stayed hot and scored a 15-12 win to take the match.
With the back-to-back wins the Mariners (11-5) cut the Avalanche lead in the standings to six. They will hit the road next weekend and visit the Douglas Royals (9-7).
Meanwhile the Avalanche (14-2) aren’t done this weekend and will now head to Victoria to meet the Camosun Chargers (8-8) on Saturday and Sunday.
