A pair of road marathon matches captured by the Chargers and Royals
Camosun Chargers 3
Capilano Blues 2
Friday night was a marathon match at Capilano with several momentum shifts
The last place Blues surprised most by battling the third place Chargers hard in the first set and winning in extra points, 28-26. They used that momentum in the second and scored a set win of 25-19 taking control of the match but wait…
In the third that momentum started to shift again as the Chargers split the Blues’ lead earning a 25-17 victory. They kept their hot play going in the fourth and won 25-20, forcing the match to go the distance.
In the fifth both battled hard until the Royals completed the reverse sweep comeback with a 15-12 earning their eighth win of the campaign.
These two schools meet again on Saturday at 3:00pm for the final time this season. WATCH HERE
Douglas Royals 3
CBC Bearcats
Not to be outdone by the Chargers reverse sweep, the Royals scored one of their own to stay in a third-place tie with Camosun.
The hometown Bearcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Friday with set wins of 25-21 and 25-15 and looked to be on cruise control until the Royals started to find their stride in the third set.
In the third, the Royals began to chip away and build up some confidence with a very competitive 25-20 set win, cutting the Bearcats lead in half. In the fourth, the Royals started to really click and evened the match with a convincing 25-15 win. Suddenly the body language of both teams spoke volumes as the Royals had all the momentum.
In the fifth and deciding set, both teams found an extra gear and kept the set close, until the bitter end when the visiting Royals pressure was too much for the Bearcats and captured the match with a 15-13 victory.
These schools will do it all over again on Saturday night at 7:00pm in their final meeting of the season and final match of Week 10. WATCH HERE.
