Men's Volleyball Returns
The second half of the schedule opens this weekend
It’s been long enough, it’s time to get back on the court and men’s volleyball opens the second half of the season this weekend!
CBC Bearcats @ COTR Avalanche – Friday January 10, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
The first match of the second half will see the top team in the CCAA put their undefeated record on the line when the Avalanche welcome the visiting Bearcats.
In their first doubleheader weekend back in October, the Avalanche (10-0) made quick work of the Bearcats at CBC un both matches, dropping only one set. They will open the second half with four in a row at home looking to take a strangle hold on the top spot in the Conference with trips to Camosun and VIU still to come.
The break didn’t come at a very good time for the Bearcats (3-7) after they captured some outstanding momentum upsetting the Mariners at VIU in two straight in mid-November. The Bearcats have had an extended break as they had their bye week during the final weekend of the first half.
These two schools face each other again on Saturday afternoon at 6:00pm.
Camosun Chargers @ VIU Mariners – Friday January 10, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
It’s part two of the island rivalry when the Chargers visit the Mariners this weekend with four points separating them in the standings.
In October the Chargers stormed back after losing the first two sets, they strung together three in a row including a 15-13 victory in the fifth set to win the match. The next day the Mariners dominated and swept to even the weekend.
Heading into the break the Chargers (7-3) lost two straight at COTR, snapping their four-game winning streak. They find themselves back on the road this weekend at VIU.
The Mariners (5-5) will try to find that momentum they had just before the break when they swept the vising Douglas Royals in three and five sets respectively at the end of November. They have been very good with a 4-2 home record, something they will look to continue this weekend when the Chargers come to town.
They will meet again on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm.
Capilano Blues @ Douglas Royals – Friday January 10, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
This is a very interesting matchup with just two points separating the Royals and Blues in the standings as we open the second half.
The Royals (3-7) lost six straight heading into the break with their last victory, a win over the Blues on October 26th. As a matter of fact, the Royals swept that weekend at Capilano winning in an exciting fifth set in their first match, then earned a three-set sweep the next day. In the first half the Royals were 1-5 at home, something they will need to change in the second half if they want to secure a playoff spot.
On the other side, the Blues (2-8) lost two straight at home against the College of the Rockies just before the break and will start with four straight on the road here in the second half. They are currently out of a playoff spot but are hoping for a turnaround now that they have seen each team at least once.
They will meet again on Saturday night at 7:00pm.
